One of my favorite things about the internet is that it breaks down geographic barriers. About 80-100 people attended last week’s Social Media Club gathering in San Francisco. Another 780 watched via Ustream, proving that distance is no barrier.
It was one of the first times I’ve seen a streamed event and it was interesting to watch the dual streams mix on Twitter. From being in the room and following the Twitter stream it was impossible to tell if the person you were retweeting was across the room or across the world. It definitely gave depth to the discussion that San Francisco traffic would restrict for evening events.
Side note: Melbourne has just launched a Social Media Club. Check it out here.
